Desktop Real Estate
I don’t like side bars, or horizontal bars. So I arrange my layout such that I don’t get the bars unless absolutely necessary.
I’m very particular about desktop real estate that evolved into its current layout after years of computing experience.
I like 19 inch monitors. WinXP. Task bar is dragged to twice the height of the default setting. That gives me enough space to have 10 windows without losing sight of what each stands for. I hate using stack-on-top feature because it’s not functional. Subconsciously, I’m sensitive to extra mouse clicks.
Anyway, nicely on the side is Google Desktop Search tucked in.
I have 10 most frequently used apps/shortcuts in the quick launch place. Since now I’m beginning to use more than 10 locations/programs in daily use, I have switched from classic to the new Program Menu interface.
